It involves covering the pipes with ceramic fabric cloth (covered in factory with thin layer of fire retardant Flammadur® E424 paste) on each side of fire rated floor or wall. The fabric is placed around the pipe, held rigidly at the concrete wall or floor by a steel flange with concrete fasteners. The opposite end of the fabric cone is to be cinched with a stainless steel hose clamp at least 18 inches along the pipe, away from the concrete. The fabric is folded alongside for movements. The system was tested inside minimum 4.5 inch thick length-weight concrete floor or wall. Inside the bellows one places tightly-packed mineral-wool.
In many industrial and high rise buildings, the concrete walls are thicker than 4.5 inch, providing probably higher T values. The system should offer higher T rating for pipes already insulated.
